ShowBiz Ireland - March 21, 2002

Last night Dublin hosted the European Premiere of the US box office hit, The Count of Monte Cristo.

Young star of the movie, Henry Cavill, flew in directly from Los Angeles to attend the premiere, which was followed by a gala ball.

Also in attendance was co-producer Morgan Sullivan (who is also co-producing Reign of Fire).

Speaking exclusively to ShowBizIreland.com, Henry said: "I love Dublin. I lived here for a while when we were shooting, so I know it fairly well."

Newcomer Henry (who was critically acclaimed for his performance) plays the role of Albert, Fernand Mondego's unsuspecting son.

Originally from Jersey in the Channel Isles, Henry is currently living in the U.S. and is in talks with major film studios about future big parts.

"There has been a great response to the movie - far more than expected. We are all very pleased," he added before disappearing into the screening.

Shot here in Ireland and in Malta, The Count of Monte Cristo is Alexandre Dumas' classic story of an innocent man wrongly but deliberately imprisoned and his brilliant strategy for revenge against those who betrayed him.
